Responsibilities:

Procurement of Fresh Product needed to meet the operational requirements of the plant in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Planning, co-ordination, management and recording of contracted plantings and ensuring these meet all legal, statutory and company specific requirements.
Liaise and build relations with existing suppliers and identify, select and approve potential new suppliers based on the company selection methodology and criteria.
Visit suppliers on a regular basis to monitor and record the following in properly controlled manner:
Variety of product planting dates
Pesticide and/or fertilizer spray program and applications
Quality of water used by supplier.
Negotiate Fresh Product prices and terms and conditions with suppliers and ensure that such negotiations are properly contracted, documented and filed according to the company specifications.
Co-ordination and communication of Fresh Product deliveries and monitoring and management of deliveries on a continuous bases to ensure operational requirements are met in an effective manner.
Monitor and record supplier performance to assess supplier’s ability to meet quality and delivery requirements on a continuous basis.
Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, and to discuss production forecasts in order to identify any deviations at an early stage to ensure the necessary corrective actions are implemented timeously and in the least disruptive manner.
Control and manage the issue, receipt and recording of all Fresh Product bins and/or related packaging material, both on the site and at suppliers, to ensure optimum utilization of such items in the most effective manner. (Preferable FIFO, pending quality of Fresh Product).
Have cleaning process in place for all food containers, and recording of such process, to ensure that all bins are cleaned in manner that comply with food safety standards.
Control and manage the receipt, issue and recording of all Fresh Product stock on the site in manner that ensure optimum utilization of such stock.
Weighing and recording of all products entering and exiting the premises as well as the grading of all Fresh Products received.
Responsible for the general housekeeping and safety in the Fresh Product receiving area, related shade and cold storage areas and the weighbridge.
Weekly stock take and recording of all Fresh Product and any other stock items under the control of the Fresh product department, eg bins, pallets, drums (both empty and full), etc.
Manage both wet and dry waste in manner that will ensure recycle targets are improved on a continuous basis.
Review, update and document Fresh Product practices in accordance with new or changing operational requirements, environmental policies, standards, regulations, or laws.
Review, update and document physical Fresh Product processes, such as workflows, cycle times, position responsibilities, or system flows.
Liaise with Head Office re Fresh product planning and procurement as and when required.
Ad hoc tasks/duties as may be required from time to time.

Requirements:

Grade 12 certificate
A Bachelor’s Degree / National Diploma in Agriculture or relevant Agriculture Tertiary Degree/Diploma is essential.
Global GAP certificate (advantageous)
Five (5) years’ experience as a Farm Manager preferably within the FMCG or vegetable plant environment
Knowledge of FMCG Manufacturing environment
Knowledge of HACCP and GFSI principles
